How to hold a guitar pick when strumming power chords?

February 10, 2012

Ok, Most websites tell me to hold the plectrum between my thumb and side of the index finger. This is fine when picking notes, but I have problem keeping hold of it when strumming chords.
I had previously held the pick between thumb and both index AND middle finger. Should I revert back to this when strumming or hold the pick the same way for everything?

Also, I enjoy playing Blink 182 and Sum 41 songs, if that makes any difference.

What ever feels comfortable is the correct way, no website can teach you that

Naw, it’s cool. I hold the pick inbetween my thumb and index/middle finger. Try using a palm mute when playing power chords. Place the palm of your right hand lightly on the strings close to the bridge. It cuts down on ambient noise and also makes the strings easier to find without having to look down. Experiment with different perssures to control your sustain.

This may not be the right way but it works for me lets say you were gonna play the song All the Small Things
you start off witha G power chord strum it, than switch to a F power chord and strum it. After that you must move to a C power chord and strum it 8 times i think (can’t tell when im not playing) by the time you’ve done this it might of slipped out of your hand some so what i do is when im switching to F (on the A string) i re get hold of my pick you will need to do this very fast in order to keep up with the song but with practise you gt used to it.
